One metaball field over a fixed dot grid. Wanderers bridge four dots at a time and walk the cells as X shapes.

Hold to add a blob of your own, which merges with any dot or figure it touches. The wanderers also start choosing steps toward the cursor, so the X shapes gather while you hold and wander off again when you release.
